RSS is Really Simple Syndication, (or in plain english), a simple way to know and read blogs. Once you subscribe to my RSS feed using a RSS reader, you will be able to read my blog, from within the reader. This is very much like email, except that the entire content (and on some website, only partial content), can be read without visiting the website.
Why use RSS?
A RSS reader allows me to track many websites everday. It is like creating your own newspaper, where you have the option to choose which authors you are interested in.
I use Google Reader (GR), which is a RSS Reader in your browser. If you have a gmail account, then you already have a GR account as well. GR has a very neat, sharing functionality. If you add me as a friend in google chat, and you have a GR account, you will be able to see all the feeds that I share. What use is this? I can now recommend articles from all the blogs that I read everyday. This means, that if you trust my judgement, you will only have to read a small subset of all the blogs that I read — you get a filtered view (based on what I think is worth reading). This is quite powerful because, it allows me to concentrate on one or two areas, like say photography and technology and delegate the rest to friends who use GR as well.

If you do not want to chat with me on google chat, but want to read my recommended posts, you can subscribe to my google reader shared items too! The power to create your own circle of influence on the web makes the it much easier to be current and on top of everything that’s happening !
