How “The Alchemy of Desire” changed my life

The Alchemy of Desire

by Tarun J. Tejpal

This is an amazing amazing book. What prose?! and what a story?! This has rekindled my faith in Indian authors, Finally a book in “english” by an Indian author, without a thousand transliterated words from Hindi.

It has made me see a few things I had forgotten, made me look and find new things, that I didn’t knew existed.

Thank you Tarun, you need to write more!

But there are so many Indian authors who write in English, already. I thought so, as when I but translations, the translator is always credited…. anyway, thank you for the tip, I am always looking to find more great books.

That is true, there are a lot of “English” Indian authors, but most of them (atleast the ones I have read) usually talk about “Indian” topics, with each character being so very typically “Indian”.

Tarun sets himself apart in that aspect. This particular book’s characters are quite universal. In is a “true” novel (if I may typify it so) The alchemy of desire, talks about a man uncovering the truth within himself and that with great prose, is something that was refreshing.
